Do you need some inspo for your next summer vacation? Maybe you’ll also fall in love with this stunning island as I did 🙂 I really think, that hvar is a pearl under all these beautiful islands in croatia. It’s full of beautiful trees, homemade products, awesome scents, mainly from lavender and my lovely turquoise blue sea.
The main reason, why I’ve chosen hvar was, that this island isn’t a classic touristic island, it’s a bit old school with a few hotels, which are located in the town of hvar. Outside the centre, you can only find around five hotels, naturally you can also stay in an appartement. I really felt in love with the beautiful nature of the island, the typical island lifestyle and the unmodern life. On the island there is just a few kilometres a normal new street, the rest is old, without a marker and some roads aren’t on google maps. The right vehicel for this island is for my opinion a vespa, because the differences between the ends of the island or between two towns are very close, you can reach them within 20 minutes.
All over the island you can find the smell of lavender and a hugh amount of lavender products which are made on the island. Also the variation of fresh products of fruits and fishes are amazing, it’s a must to taste them.
You can spend your day by strolling through hvar town, browse in all the cute little stores, taste a few products in the market, watch the fishermen in the port at their work and take a little break in one of the beautiful cafes directly at the port – you’ll enjoy the flair there.
Also a nice daytrip is to drive with a vespa through the island, stop at little farmers where you can taste the famous istria vine. Drive further along the coast, stop and watch at the awesome view until some neighbours islands and further. Everywhere at the whole island can you find some little bays and beaches, without a lot of people.
I spend this weekend in the beautiful senses resort, with is located a few kilometres away from hvar town, between pine trees directly at the sea. It’s really a silent cute little place, the next town where you can also find some restaurants and bars, is called vrboska and you can reach it by food in around 15 minutes. The resort is beautiful, with cozy new rooms and a tasty breakfast and dinner with a great few over the sea.
We drove to the island by car, to arrival, we toke the ferry from drvenik, because the crossing takes just around 30 minutes. At our way home, we took the ferry from stari grad to split, here takes the transit around 1,50 hours, but the view is really awesome.
All in all, hvar is a perfect place to spend a weekend offside the touristic mainstream, between a beautiful landscape with the yummy istria kitchen.
