Budapest / Hungary – such a beautiful city with a great history – especially for an austrian girl like me. It was really awesome to be in budapest for the first time. I was never there before, just a few times in hungary in one of the famous thermal baths, but never in the main city. I was really surprised, that you can find soo many simile architecture compared with vienna. By the way, I absolutely love this old traditional style, which you can find at some places in austria, italy, slovenia and also hungary. The history between austria and hungary is long and important so it’s a travel must for austrian people, to visit budapest – and of course you’ll love it. The people are really friendly, the food is still awesome, it’s an old traditional and simple kitchen but definitely worse to try it out 🙂
As always, you can find some sightseeing tips and top places in budapest in my travel diary:
How you can get there? By car – as we did – or by flight. The public transportations are good, you can use the metro or the old stylish tram 🙂
The city is shared in two parts, left from the donau river is the district buda and right from the river the pest part of the town. The left site is marked with a hill, where a beautiful castle is located and where you also have an absolutely breathtaking view over the whole city. Also on both sides you can troll through the river, but from the left side you’ve got the better view to the parliament building. I’ve also chosen a hotel, which is located at the opposite side of this building, so I had the beautiful view the whole day. The pest part is more straight but with the beautiful old building style. In this part you also find awesome shopping possibilities, the great hungary food and the perfect nightlife.
Here also come my top 3 sightseeing tips for a short budapest weekend:
- the market hall – a little highlight, full of magical moments and good taste food. I think I’ve never seen such big vegetables before. You can also eat there or buy food or handcraft made things.
- another great place is the impressive chain bridge – this building is also really awesome, especially the night or morning view.
- definitely my highlight of this trip was the beautiful fisherman’s bastion in the morning light and also the view over the whole city. This magical place in combination with the view is still breathtaking – visit it!
